Specification Water Management -Ensures that released water complies to waste water standards -Ensures that environmental reports are submitted to the Regulator -Ensures that flood management plans are up to date Waste Management -Facilitates and ensures the disposal of hazardous waste -Promotes energy and materials conservation by means of recycling and re-use of re-usable materials and energy saving measures -Ensures that all waste carrier equipment and facilities are licensed Advisory -Advises and trains all employees on all safety and environmental matters Environmental Management -Ensures the effective implementation of a Pollution Control Programme -Plans and develops mine rehabilitation and clean-up projects -Assists in the development, refinement and implementation of the Mine closure plan Planning, Budgeting and Cost Control -Sets output objectives and measures for the Section to meet short and medium term goals, and disseminates same to colleagues and subordinates, for approval of Manager -Develops operational plans for the Section, setting priorities, with clear activity schedules, performance targets, standards, procedures and timeframes, and monitors achievement of same -Recommends resource requirements for the section to the Manager, and deploys allocated resources efficiently, taking into account identified needs and priorities -Prepares draft budgets for the section, justifies these to Team Leader, and reports monthly on performance against budgets -Participates in planning meetings jointly with section leaders and other stakeholders to determine the scope of work for planned jobs and identifies section needs Process Improvement -Reviews systems to identify causes of bottlenecks, and develops proposals on process improvement with the intention to do power rationalisation People Effectiveness -Deploys and allocates work to subordinates within the unit, taking account of operational needs and competence, agrees performance objectives and targets with direct reports, and monitors attainment of same -Monitors subordinate behaviour and performance and enforces implementation of Company disciplinary code and performance management system -Monitors performance by putting in place output agreements with staff and undertakes performance reviews in accordance with company performance management system, provides professional advice, coaching and mentoring Safety, Health and Environment -Monitors adherence to the Company safety rules and procedures, and takes necessary remedial action in accordance with laid down Company rules -Drives the safety culture within the Company -Ensures implementation and monitoring of corrective action plans from internal or external audits -Ensures that all incidents are investigated and actions closed Requirements -Degree in Environmental Science or equivalent -IS0 certification as appropriate - 4 years as a SHE Officer -Knowledge of Excel -Valid light duty drivers' licence
